What not to do when you¡¯re angry

Everyone has bad days from time to time. Anger not only affects your mood but also your ability to perform daily tasks. The Huffington Post introduced 10 things that you should not do when you are angry.

1. Don¡¯t sleep on it

According to the study of Journal of Neuroscience, sleep enhances emotional memories. This means that if you are going to sleep while angry, negative emotions are going to be consolidated more effectively than if being awake.

2. Don¡¯t eat

At an angry stage we are likely to make more unhealthy food choices and are craving high-fat and high-sugar food. If the body is in an angry state, it thinks that it is in danger and therefore digestion does not function well.

3. Don¡¯t drive

Driving while angry can be very dangerous. When a person is angry, it is more likely that he or she gets primed for attacks and creates a ¡°person tunnel vision,¡± which means that you only look straight and don¡¯t look around.

4. Don¡¯t vent

Letting anger out of you might not be a good idea. It makes only the situation worse and it doesn¡¯t make you happy. In addition, getting violent while angry triggers more violent behavior in the future.

5. Don¡¯t argue

Arguing while angry can lead to saying things that you might regret later. If you are having a conversation while you are angry, simply ask for a ¡°time out¡± and come back to the conversation later.

6. Don¡¯t write emails

You can¡¯t take back things after you hit the ¡°send¡± button. If you want to get rid of your angry thoughts, just write them on a Word document. There won¡¯t be any regret if you do it this way.

7. Don¡¯t use Facebook

As with emails, you can¡®t take back what you have said. Plus, everyone will become aware of things you didn¡¯t wanted to make official.

8. Don¡¯t drink alcohol

Alcohol removes the impulse control and doesn¡¯t help you calm down, but rather the opposite. It lowers inhibition and impulse and can make situations much worse.

9. Don¡¯t ruminate

Ruminating, overthinking about the person who harmed you, is no resolution to anger. Be cool, stay cool and talk to the person instead

10. Don¡¯t ignore your blood pressure

Anger is related to health. If you are an ¡°angry person,¡± you should check your blood pressure more often. If your blood pressure goes up, stop being angry and try to manage your anger.
